Some of us have taken dates out to a Washington Capitals game and had a good time. For one fan back in the day, it wasn’t quite what he’d hope.

The date started out promising for the Washington Capitals fan. First they were playing table hockey which she narrowly beat him.

Then they checked out the team store at the Verizon Center, the arena it was previously called unless this video we’re about to see is from when the building was called the MCI Center.

While inside the team store, the couple is seen looking at the foam fingers. The guy finds the right one but the girl makes him switch it out for the pink one. But hey as long as it has the Capitals logo, right?

Then it was time to grab a drink. The guy was eyeing the beer stand but his date wanted margaritas instead. But then she had to go to the bathroom and he had to hold her purse. He got ridiculed for holding a purse by fans walking by.

Finally, it was time to take their seats for the game that night. But to the guy’s surprise when she takes off her jacket she reveals she’s a fan of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The guy had enough and rightfully stormed out ending things.

I guess one good thing is that she isn’t a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins but still, we all know the rivalry between the Capitals and the Lightning which began in the 2003 playoffs when they stunned the Caps. They also at one point were rivals in the Southeast Division before the league was realigned.

They stunned the Caps even more in 2011 in a four-game sweep but the Caps would get payback seven years later in the sweetest way possible, winning Game 6 in a dominating effort at home and then Game 7 on the road to advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

You can check out the video right here of how this wild date went down.

Here’s hoping none of us have that awkward experience next time we bring a date to a Caps game.
