Nic Dowd
According to Natural Stat Trick, there were only two Capitals players who had more than one individual scoring chances in this game. To compare, the Flyers had six guys who more than one chance. Richard Panik was one of the Caps with 2 scoring chances, I didn’t notice him. I did however notice Nic Dowd and his two chances. For that reason, He makes our stars of the game.
Dowd had two terrific chances in this game, the bad news for him and the Capitals was he missed the net on both of them, not even getting a shot on net to show for it.
Dowd’s advanced stats looked a little like this. While on the ice the Caps had 8 attempts for and 7 against for a Corsi rating of 53.33%. Washington also had 4 chances for and 3 against with Dowd on the ice. He was one of just five Caps who had a positive scoring chance for percentage at 57.14%.
Dowd also tied for the lead in hits with 5. He tied with Alex Ovechkin. Tom Wilson had 4 hits and Garnet Hathaway had only 1 hit. Even the usual big hitters were down for this one.
If you have to pick stars for stars of the game Dowd is probably as good a choice as there is. He had good advanced stats, I noticed him more than most and he had a few chances. No one else had those qualities this game. Therefore, welcome to the stars of the game Nic Dowd!
