Round 5, Pick 148 Bear Hughes

Imagine the roar of the crowd, no pun intended, when he scores a goal for the Hershey Bears. Bear Hughes had 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 61 games with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The season before he had 41 goals in 46 games for the Spokane Braves of the KIJHL along with 25 assists for 66 points. He’s a bear on the puck and can create an impact on the ice.

Round 6, Pick 179 Garin Bjorklund

The Caps were going to draft a goalie eventually right? The Caps did that in the sixth round with the selection of Garin Bjorklund. In his first full season in the WHL he played in 28 games and had a 2.91 goals against average and a .897 save percentage. He has the confidence of a goalie and isn’t afraid to make the flashy save.

Round 7, Pick 211 Oskar Magnusson

Oskar Magnusson was acquired in the seventh round after the Caps made a rare trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins will get Washington’s seventh rounder next year. This past season he had 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points.

More. Washington Capitals re-sign Shane Gersich. light

Overall, it was a good draft by the Capitals as they look to invest into their future when the current core retires.
