#2 Can the Caps continue their dominance in the NHL?

The Capitals have won the Metropolitan Divison for five straight years. Can they continue this momentum in a completely new divisional realignment? We reported a few weeks ago that the first draft of the division realignment took away the divisional rivalry with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now the new realignment includes them and other Metro Division foes.

The Caps would be in the East division with the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. That is a tough one.

So basically the Metro Division plus the Sabres and Bruins. This divisional realignment is to take away travel. It’ll be interesting to see how they format the schedule if there’s gonna be back to backs against the same opponent or a three game series like in baseball.

The Caps made a significant upgrade with their coach and having Peter Laviolette behind the bench will help change the culture. The defense is in better strength with the additions of Justin Schultz and Trevor van Riemsdyk. The forwards not much has changed on that front but the Caps bring back a strong returning top six.
