#2 He’s done it before

Ovechkin has taken home the Hart Trophy multiple times in his career. There’s no reason to think he can’t do it this season. But everyone knows the real trophy that he wants in the grand scheme of things which would be the second time he’s done it. Gotta get there first.

Ovechkin actually won his first Hart Trophy just months after he signed that contract extension with the Caps. That 2007-08 campaign was his best season statistically but even saying that he still put up monster numbers after that year.

Ovechkin led the league that season with a whooping 65 goals. There was even games where he would score four goals as well as a five goal game. He helped lead the Caps to the playoffs and create buzz and excitement around the city, flipping Washington from a football to a hockey town.

The next year Ovechkin followed up his 65 goal season with 56 taking home a second straight Hart Trophy. He won his third Hart Trophy in the lockout shortened season of 2013. That year he led the league with 32 goals in 48 games. He hopes to put up those kinds of numbers in a 56 game season. He’s got the potential to do just that.
