#1 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin will be ready to go for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. He comes into this game having a career 69 goals (nice), 62 assists and 131 points in 136 playoff games. Ovechkin’s 69 playoff goals in his career rank 18th in NHL history and he only trails Patrick Marleau (72) among active players and is among the top 50 in career playoff points ranking 44th.

Ovechkin has scored at least four goals in 11 of his previous 12 postseason appearances which is second only to Wayne Gretzky (12 times) for the most such playoff performances.

From 2014-15 to 2016-17, Ovechkin scored 15 goals in 39 playoff games which is an average of 0.38 goals per game. From 2017-18 to 2019-20, Ovechkin has scored 23 goals in 39 playoff games which is an average of 0.59 goals per game.

Ovechkin played in 19 minutes on Tuesday night’s regular season finale. He took his place on the top line at Saturday’s morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex alongside Nicklas Backstrom and Anthony Mantha. As for Oshie he’s a game time decision tonight.

Ted Leonsis met with the media yesterday and while there hasn’t been a deal yet done with Ovechkin he urged the fans not to take the great eight for granted. Hopefully a deal gets done this summer but right now everyone’s focused on beating the Bruins.
