The Washington Capitals fell to the Calgary Flames in their second overtime defeat in seven days. Despite the loss, the Caps still haven’t lost a game in regulation and carry a 3-0-2 record heading into Monday’s contest against the Ottawa Senators.

The Caps would fall 4-3 on a Saturday matinee. Something about afternoon games and the Capitals do not mix. Here’s the game recap as well as our contributor David’s breakdown of the recent power play woes.

Let’s break down the game a little more. Presenting: the good, the bad, and the ugly from this contest. We’re going to start with the bad.

The Bad

The bad of course was that the Caps weren’t able to score any goals in the third period which resulted in the second straight sporting event at Capital One Arena to go to overtime after the NBA’s Washington Wizards prevailed in the extra session the night before.

The third period saw the Caps be outshot 8-5. Ilya Samsonov was in net, taking over in the second period reliving Vitek Vanecek after something happened that we’ll get to later. In overtime the Caps outshot the Flames 3-2 but Calgary got the win when it mattered most when Elias Lindholm completed his hat trick.
