2021 was a weird year but it did have some good moments for the Washington Capitals. Before we turn the page and look ahead to 2022 let’s take a look back at the three best moments of the 2021 calendar year for the Caps.

#3 N1KY

On April 15, Nicklas Backstrom got the recognition he deserved as he became the second Caps player in franchise history to play in 1,000 games, all with the Capitals. The Caps pulled out all the stops, from his teammates rocking N1KY tee shirts to his former teammates congratulating him via video message, it was very moving and something we wish we would have gotten to see in person.

His former teammate Mike Green told Monumental Sports:

"“He’s been the grounding force. He’s always been involved in everything and not necessarily gotten all the recognition for it – and I don’t think he necessarily needs it or wants it. But he’s always showed up and done the work no matter whether it’s off the ice or on the ice. I think that goes a long way with a community and a fanbase.”"

Backstrom and his family were recognized before the game. It’s cool to see both him and Ovechkin reach the 1,000 game plateau.
