#1 Alex Ovechkin

Number one on our list is none other than Alex Ovechkin, and for a good reason. The Great Eight hasn’t scored a goal at all in any of the four January games. In fact, his last time scoring was on the last day of 2021 when he set the all time power play goals record and then added an empty net to seal the Caps last win.

So yeah, an Ovechkin goal increases the team’s chances of winning night after night. The fact that he’s on a dry spell too is all the more reason to say he needs to step up this month. So far this season Ovechkin has 24 goals and 28 assists for 52 points. This is a season we haven’t seen from him since his prime.

From two goals on opening night the Great Eight never looked back. He had nine goals in the month of October to go along with six assists for 15 points. He didn’t slow down in November as he had 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 15 games. He had eight games in October.

In 10 December games, Ovi had five goals and eight assists for 13 points. It’s only a matter of time till he scores this month, the question is when and the Caps would like it sooner rather than later.
