The Washington Capitals’ schedule was recently released, and while Caps fans have confidence that their favorite team can make a deep run and make a push for the postseason, there are a few games that should be considered a “must-watch” this season.
After adding Jordan Kyrou, Alex Tuch, and Vincent Desharnais as part of what seemed to be a bit of a retool, the Capitals seem poised to push for their second Stanley Cup in franchise history, and are widely considered one of the favorites coming out of the Eastern Conference.
The first must-watch game of the season is their third game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That will be the first time in the 2026-27 season we get to see Alex Ovechkin go head-to-head with Sidney Crosby, while also seeing two long-time rivals test themselves against each other.
The second must-watch game is their December 21st matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where we will likely see Ovechkin take on first overall selection Gavin McKenna for the first time. That game, being right before the Christmas break, should also be a good final indicator of where both teams sit heading into the back half of the campaign.
The third must-watch game is another game against the Penguins, that being April 4th. This could be the last time we ever see Ovechkin and Crosby playing against each other, barring them seeing each other in the postseason, and it will be their final regular-season game at home before a 3-game road trip to finish off the 2026-27 season.
Every game is important and every point matters, especially in a tough division. However, these three games stand out as “must watch” games for Capitals fans.
The Capitals open their season on October 2nd in a battle against the defending champions, the Carolina Hurricanes.
