The Washington Capitals made a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, their second such one this season, this time to acquire Anthony Beauvillier in exchange for a 2025 second round pick.
Another deal with the Pens
The 27 year old has recorded 20 points with 13 goals and seven assists in 63 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. 12 of his 13 have come at five on five, which ranked third on the Pens. The five foot 11, 180 pound forward also ranked second on Pittsburgh in hits with 108 and sixth in shots with 120.
Beauvillier was orginally drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round at 28th overall in the 2015 Draft. In 613 career NHL games with the Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators and Penguins, Beauvillier has recorded 266 points with 129 goals and 137 assists.
The native out of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec scored a career high 21 goals in 2017-18 with the Islanders and compiled a career best 40 points with 18 goals and 22 assists in 82 games during the 2022-23 season with New York and Vancouver. He has scored 15 or more goals in five of his eight NHL seasons.
Washington currently has five picks in the 2025 NHL Draft including the Boston Bruins' 2025 second round pick which was acquired on Feb. 23, 2023. He will be reunited with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dylan Strome as the trio have played on various Team Canada squads and he played with Taylor Raddysh with the Blackhawks and Lars Eller with the Penguins, whom the Capitals acquired from the Penguins earlier this season.

This will bring the Caps speed and his cap hit is just $1.3 million. His projected WAR is at 18 percent while his offense is at 23 perent at even strength, 38 percent at even strenth defense and 25 percent finishing in. He is 40 percent in goals, 10 percent in primary assists, 60 percent in penalties and 42 percent in competition as well as 63 percent teammate satisfaction.
This was the right move the Capitals had to make to shore up their bottom six. His corsi for percentage per Natural Stat Trick is at 52.12 percent, an expected goals for percentage of 53.15 percent, and a high danger chances for percentage of 51.57 percent. Overall that's good advanced numbers for a bottom six winger that the Caps needed down the stretch of the season.
