Before we breakdown the matchup let's talk betting odds. Per Caesars Sportsbook, the Caps are 1.5 goal favorites with moneyline odds of -120. The Predators are the underdog at +100 with an over/under of 6.0 goals.
The Caps held an optional morning skate today. Jakob Chychrun was in a powder blue no contact jersey but participated in drills. Per Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network, don't expect him to suit up however, he is making progress.
Logan Thompson was the first goalie off the ice so expect him to start tonight. Jakub Vrana, Mike Sgarbossa, Dylan McIlrath and Vincent Iorio took the scratches skate. Chychrun took some corner battle contact from McIlrath and the end of the optional so hashtag more progress.
Matt Roy, the defenseman who's been missing in action due to injury since opening night, is expected to make his return to the lineup tonight per Caps head coach Spencer Carbery. As for Chychrun, Carbery said this per El-Bashir:
"He's getting close... I'm not sure on the back to back (coming up this weekend against the Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues"Spencer Carbery
During yesterday's skate, Alex Ovechkin spoke to the media. He didn't say much but he's super duper pumped about the Screaming Eagle coming back tonight:
"I love it. The fans love it. Best jersey in the NHL."Alex Ovechkin
Coming off a loss to Carolina, the Caps still sit in good position. The Predators out in the Central Divison sit at the bottom with just a 4-7-1 record for nine points. But records don't matter in this league. It's very important for the Caps to avoid the trap game.
