The Capitals are 1.5 goal favorites per Caesars Sportsbook with -170 moneyline odds. The Blackhawks are the underdog at +143. The game is set at an over/under of 6.0 goals.
Washington had an unbelieveable run of 10 straight wins on the road and a nine game point streak in their loss to the Dallas Stars. The Caps went more than six weeks without the taste of defeat like a guy who won extra miles on TSA during every single road trip. Pretty good considering the Captain is still working on his return to the ice.
There he is. Alex Ovechkin in a light blue non contact jersey as he continues to recover from his lower body injury that has sidelined him week to week. Spencer Carbery remains secretive about the Captain's return which is the right call as there isn't a need to rush.
The difference last night wasn't the scoring but the stellar play of Stars goaltender ake Oettinger as he entered the game with four wins against Washington along with a .950 save percentage and a 1.60 goals against average. He improved those numbers while upping his record to 5-0-0 against the Caps.
Capitals coach Spencer Carbery would say this after the game via Mike Vogel of WashCaps.com:
"I thought Oettinger was the big (difference), probably 1A. Special teams is probably 1B, and then probably 1C is they got a couple of key breaks, but then they capitalize. Like the power play (goal); a couple of their top players make a good play and shoot it in the net, and then same thing on the third goal. They turn us over, and obviously have a good play and shoot it in the net, and some thing on the third goal. They turn us over, and obviously we have to execute there and shoot it past our goalie."Spencer Carbery via Vogs
