In this piece though we'll talk about defenseman Jakob Chychrun who's been an impact on the Capitals since he was added on. He recorded two assists on Saturday against the New York Rangers at Capital One Arena which marked his eighth multi point game of the season.
Chychrun scored his 11th goal of the seaosn on Dec. 31 against the Boston Bruins also on home ice and ranks third in the NHL in goals by a defenseman. In 34 games this season, Chychrun has registered 27 points with 11 goals and 16 assists. The 26 year old blueliner ranks first among Capitals defensemen in points, goals, game winning goals with three, and plus/minus with +16 while also tied for first in power play points with nine and second in assists.
10 of Chychrun's 16 assists this season have been primaries. He has recorded 19 points in his last 19 games with six goals and 13 assists dating back to Nov. 25, the most on the Capitals during that span. He played in his 500th career game on Jan. 2 against the Minnesota Wild.
The first round pick at 16th overall by Arizona became the ninth player and third defensemen from the 2016 NHL Draft class to play in 500 career games. He was acquired from the Ottawa Senators on July 1 from Nick Jensen and Washington's third round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and has played in 34 of his 501 career games with the Capitals.
Speaking of defensemen, the Capitals d corps combined for six assists in their 7-4 win on Saturday over the New York Rangers.
