Live Tracker: Alex Ovechkin’s quest to chase down Gretzky’s all-time goals mark

Alex Ovechkin is chasing history and there’s a good chance he’ll snag Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record at some point in 2025.

Wow, Alex Ovechkin is so close to breaking the great Wayne Gretzky’s record in goals scored, that there’s a good chance he’ll be setting new milestones by the time the 2024-25 regular season has reached its ultimate conclusion. 

In case you’re unsure of the number, Gretzky has 894 goals scored, so that’ll be the magic number we'll all be watching as Ovechkin inches closer and attempts to claim the record for himself. 

Since there’s a good chance he’ll make history, we decided to build this live tracker to document Ovechkin’s historical run. Every time Ovechkin scores, we’ll update this tracker the following day so you too can stay updated as one of the greatest hockey players of all time chases a milestone we thought would never be reached again. 

Alex Ovechkin has 873 career goals and 22 away from breaking Gretzky’s record

So far in 2024-25, Ovechkin has 33 points, 21 goals, and 12 assists in 29 games played.

Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winner on Thursday night, bringing him one step closer to Gretzky's record with 21 goals.
