If you do it right, there is no better date night than a Caps game in DC.
Trying to park in Chinatown is expensive, a nightmare, and more often than not they block off the streets to access the garages. The Metro will take you straight to Gallery Place, or you can park in another part of the city and walk your way to the game - walks on dates are hugely underrated, and I'm not sure if you've heard, but there are a couple of things worth walking past in the Capital.
You mostly need to be concerned with the teeny, tiny bag policy at Capital One Arena so that you don't get held up at security and miss warmies (which would completely ruin the evening). The oversized bag lockers are extortionate and to be avoided at all costs.
#1: If you're not wearing jerseys. You're going to start with drinks at Modena at 5pm - bonus points if you order a Smoke Show. Then, make your way to Capital One Arena (there's expedited entry if you have a Capital One credit card), but make a quick detour to Chaia first and split the taco trio. When you get to the game, the view is actually great from the front of the 400s and you're right around the corner from the wall of beer taps. The chicken tenders are pretty good and shareable, which is nice when they're $18. When you're walking out with smiles after a win, pop over to Pitango gelato for a little sweet treat; they're open 'til midnight and only a block away.
#2: If you're #ALLCAPS all day. Kick things off with happy hour at Casta's Rum Bar. Then you'll hit Matchbox for pizza before the game. If you need new gear, head upstairs where you don't have to wait in line so that you can get back to your seat in time for pre-game and a little boogie. If it's tots on ice night at intermission I'd stick around - there's nothing cuter than tiny goalies. This absolutely calls for a post-game round of indoor mini golf at Five Iron to work out the adrenaline.
Ultimately you want to remember the date comes first, so don't be mad if they explain icing wrong. Get hyped up about the 'boy aquarium'. And then you're going to point out that the Capitals are the most married team in the NHL, and they take commitment seriously. The romance is going to overwhelm you both. You'd better only bring someone you like to a Caps game because you'll probably be together forever.
