Another three games are in the rear view mirror, another three wins join them. The Washington Capitals are on a bit of a roll.

They are currently on a four game winning streak and they haven’t failed to pick up a point since the October 14th game against the Colorado Avalanche.

With a streak like this there definitely players to mention. Unfortunately we won’t be talking about this entire stretch, just the past week. A win in Toronto, a home win vs the fast starting Buffalo Sabres and finishing the week on Sunday with a win vs the Calgary Flames.

A 3-0-0 week should give us plenty of guys to mention and give out a star of the week to. Who deserves this very, very prestigious honor? We’ll start with…

Jakub Vrana

I guess we should probably just get the easy one out of the way early. Jakub Vrana had a terrific week. The way we determine if you’re one of our stars of the week is if you have good stats, have some good advanced stats and if you’re noticeable on the ice. Vrana had all three this week.

This week Vrana had five goals in three games, including a hat-trick vs the Flames on Sunday night. He also added an assist to get his point total to six points in the three games.

His advanced stats were very good this week as well. His Corsi% was a team leading 64.29%. He also led the team in scoring chance for% at 76.74%, the team having 33 scoring chances for while on the ice and just 10 against.

Individually Vrana had 16 scoring chances which tied for the team lead with Alex Ovechkin. The same can be said for individual high danger attempts, he had 6 tied with Ovechkin for the team lead.

Something to note for Vrana is he tied for the team lead in takeaways tying with Dmitry Orlov. When you think of Jakub Vrana you don’t think of defense and you definitely don’t think he would tie with a defenseman in a defensive stat. Well done to Mr. Vrana there.

Heck of a week for Vrana. This was a no-brainer. He clearly deserves to be one of the stars of the week.
