A shift has occurred at the top of the Metropolitan Division Power Rankings: The Islanders have officially unseated the Penguins as the number one team in the division. Other than that, not too much has changed in the Metropolitan Division. Here are this week’s Metropolitan Division Power Rankings:

Metropolitan Division Power Rankings

The Islanders are finally starting to look like the team that they had the potential to be. They’re looking like the best team in the Metropolitan Division. Not only is their offense arguably the best in the Eastern Conference, their defense is really starting to come together. <strong></strong><strong><a href=. (15-6-0). Previous: . New York Islanders. 1. team. 106

2. team. 92. The Penguins are still technically the first place team in the Metropolitan Division (they’ve played one less game than the Islanders), but when you lose both ends of a home-and-home against the team you’re tied with, that shows who the better team is. The Penguins still have <strong></strong><strong><a href=. (14-4-2). Previous: . Pittsburgh Penguins

Washington Capitals. 3. team. 19. I believe the Capitals are much better than their record shows. They have the sixth highest ES FenClose% in the NHL, and their offense seems like it’s bound to break out very soon. <strong></strong><strong><a href=. (9-8-3). Previous:

Previous: . New York Rangers. 4. team. 95. The Rangers still need to get things going. Luckily, only the Islanders and Rangers have looked good so far in the Metropolitan Division. They must play better in close situations, as their ES FenClose% of 49.83% is 17th in the NHL. That usually doesn’t bode well n the long-run. They have extremely fast forwards, but they are very inconsistent.. (9-7-4)

New Jersey Devils. 5. team. 85. The Devils haven’t done too well this season, but luckily, the Metropolitan Division has struggled outside of the Pens and Islanders. If the Devils can get their offense going, they could sneak into the playoffs. Their 20th ranked ES FenClose% of 48.97% does not bode well for them. . (9-10-3). Previous:

6. team. 68. The Flyers are really beginning to struggle. Their defense has been putrid, to say the least. They are the fifth worst team during close situations at even strength with a 46.10% ES FenClose%. That must change if the Flyers want to have success this season. . (8-9-2). Previous: . Philadelphia Flyers

Carolina Hurricanes. 7. team. 109. The Hurricanes are having an awful season, both on and off the ice. On the ice, they have the 18th best ES FenClose% (49.67%), but their 97.66 PDO during close situations suggests that their play during those situations is likely to improve a bit. Off the ice, the drama is built around <strong></strong><strong><a href=. (6-11-3). Previous:

8. team. 113. The Blue Jackets are the owners of the worst ES FenClose% in the Metropolitan Division, and the fifth worst overall in the NHL (46.07%). They are starting to get healthy, but they still aren’t looking good on the ice at all.  . (6-13-2). Previous: . Columbus Blue Jackets
