Capitals lose their 3rd straight to the Montreal Canadians 4-3 in OT.

Despite being 34-years-old, Alexander Ovechkin, just keeps on trucking along, moving up the list of the greatest hockey players to ever step a foot on the ice.

Most predicted he’ll just slowdown this during this season, saying there’s no way he’s scoring 50 goals, let alone 40 goals. Well, he’s passed one of the doubts that many said he won’t accomplish.

At the 7:29 mark in the first period, Ovechkin scores goal No. 699 of his career and No. 41 of the season. During the chase to 700, Ovechkin passed many players like, Mario Lemieux (690), Steve Yzerman (692)and Mark Messier (694).

The question know being asked around D.C. is, will he ever slow down. Ovechkin’s is set to become an UFA at the end of the 2021 season. He has expressed wanting to finish his career with his buddy, Nicklas Bäckström, who recently inked a new deal for 5-years, $46 million that locks him up until the end of the 2024-2025 season.

At some point goal No. 700 has to happen, and when it does it’s going to be a beauty no matter how its scored.

Newcomer, Brenden Dillon, had a pretty solid game playing alongside his new teammate, John Carlson. Dillion played top-4 minuets and got some time on the penalty-kill team. Right away, you can tell that Dillon’s hustle, toughness and strong play helped the team get the puck out of their own zone as they struggled with during the month of January and most of February. It’s players like Dillon that can change a teams attitude while on a low.

Last but not least, our Stanley Cup Champion, Branden Holtby, through 41 games of the 60 played, he has improved his play in net. However, the end result hasn’t been what a goalie wants. To many breakaways and turnovers by the defense has left him out to dry. That’s not what this team needs to do if they want to win another Cup. Also, Holtby has let in to many easy goals like the one that caused the Capitals two points tonight against an ailing Montreal Canadians bunch.

Up next, the NJ Devils, who beat the San Jose Sharks, Dillion’s former team, 2-1 at Prudential Center last night. All in all, they got a point and guess what? Yep, the Penguins and Capitals are tied for first place in the point category. These two will tangle again this Sunday at 12-noon.
