Alex Ovechkin is on a quest for chasing Wayne Gretzky’s record. While that is on hold, the Washington Capitals superstar will go up against the Great One in NHL 20.

On Wednesday April 22nd at 8 p.m. head over to the Capitals Twitch channel to stream the video game battle of the century. Fans will be able to watch and listen to the two icons battle it out Xbox style in a best of three format. This is presented by Pest Managment Services Incorporated (PMSI) and TekSynap.
Fans have a chance to make a donation during the Twitch live stream to benefit both the Edmonton Food Bank and the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation’s “Feeding the Frontlines” fund, which provides meals to heroes in the medical community. You can make a donation by clicking here.
During the interview, Ovechkin and Gretzky talk about Ovechkin’s pursuit of Gretzky’s record 894 career goals, their love of hockey, the pause in the season, and the current state of the league.
Ovechkin recently joined the 700 goal club on Feb. 22nd becoming the eighth member to reach it. With 48 goals on the season, Ovechkin is just two goals shy of his ninth 50-goal season which would tie Gretzky and Mike Bossy for the most in NHL history.
On Ovechkin possibly breaking the record, Gretzky told NHL Public Relations:
"“I don’t think there’s any doubt in my mind that he has a great chance to do that. He plays on a good team with good players. And most importantly, Alex plays hard every single night. And to me, if you don’t play hard every night, those are kind of records you can’t break. And he does that. I think it’s great for hockey.”"
It’s going to be awesome to see two of the best all-time go head to head video game style in the name of charity to raise funds for the novel coronavirus. Here’s hoping we see Ovechkin back on the ice soon with a chance to continue to chase Gretzky’s record.
