After some inappropriate comments on social media by Brendan Leipsic, the Washington Capitals laid down the hammer.

After Brendan Leipsic had some offensive messages on his Instagram leaked to the public, the Washington Capitals placed him on unconditional waivers for purposes of terminating his contract.

The announcement came on Friday morning after the leaks came out Wednesday night.

Leipsic was a fourth liner brought on last summer but for a fourth liner, he became well talked about among the hockey world. But for the wrong reasons you’d want to be.

Leipsic said bad things about his linemates Nic Dowd and Garnet Hathaway and if that wasn’t bad enough made bigoted, misogynistic, and degrading comments about women including the wives of some of his former teammates.

It is the type of comments that can give athletes a bad name. But that type of behavior has no place in the culture that the Washington Capitals have put together in D.C.

One comment was about “how fat (Tanner) Pearson’s wife is” mentioned by Leipsic himself as well as his description of thick girls as pigs, commenting “oink oink”.

Regarding Hathaway and Dowd, one of Leipsic’s friends shared a tweet of them recording a podcast. Leipsic simply wrote, “my linemates (expletive) they’re losers”. Perhaps it’s a good thing for Leipsic the contract was terminated considering Hathaway is a fighter.

Leipsic played in 61 games for the Caps scoring three goals and eight assists for 11 points. His last game came on Feb. 23rd and he was out of the lineup since when the Capitals landed Ilya Kovalchuk prior to the trade deadline.

Richard Panik moved down from the the third line to the fourth line to slot into Leipsic’s place while Kovalchuk took over the third line. Leipsic hasn’t been in the lineup since and it’s doubtful another team will pick him up based on his behavior.
