The Washington Capitals had a nearly perfect January in their return to the ice having lost zero games in regulation. They look to continue the momentum as they begin a new month as they host the Boston Bruins.
This game is a rematch from Saturday in a contest that saw the Caps surrender a three goal lead only to come out on top in overtime thanks to Alex Ovechkin.
The Caps are 17-2-0 in their last 19 games against the Bruins having outscored them 64-36 in that span.
For Ovechkin, it was his NHL record 24th career overtime goal and first since the Bruins since he did it in his rookie season on April 10, 2006 in Boston.

Ovechkin’s goal was the 708th of his career which tied him with Mike Gartner for the seventh most goals in NHL history. Ovechkin reached the mark in 275 fewer games than Gartner. Gartner has his number retired in the rafters at Capital One Arena, something Ovechkin would like to do someday. The goal also pushed him past Teemu Selanne and Brett Hull for sole possession on the NHL’s all time game winning goals list with 110.
The Caps carry a 6-0-3 record through their first nine games of the season. A nine game point streak to start the season is a franchise record. Can they continue their winning ways? Here is how to find out.
