Alexeyev is a native from St. Petersburg, Russia. He ranked second on the team in points and third in ice time (17:52) among defensemen. He was named the KHL’s Rookie of the Month in January after recording seven points with four goals and three assists and a +6 plus/minus rating in 11 games. He additionally recorded an assist in nine playoff games.
The six foot four, 210 pound defenseman finished his first AHL season in 2019-20 with 21 points with three goals and 18 assists in 58 games with Hershey. The 21 year old ranked third among Bears defensemen and 12th among all AHL rookie defensemen in points.
Alexeyev’s 18 points at even strength tied for sixth among all AHL rookie defensemen. Alexeyev led Hershey defensemen in games played and ranked third in plus/minus with eight.
In the 2018-19 season, Alexeyev recorded 43 points with 10 goals and 33 assists in 49 games with the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League (WHL), ranking eighth among defensemen in points per game (0.88). In 135 career games with Red Deer, Alexeyev recorded 101 points with 21 goals and 80 assists.
Alexeyev has represented Team Russia at the 2019 World Junior Championship, the 2016 Under 18 World Championship and the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial. Alexeyev recorded six points with two goals and four assists in seven games to win the bronze medal in the 2019 World Junior Champinship.
It is doubtful we’ll see Alexeyev in the NHL this season. The only way for that to realistically happen is if there were several injuries to the defense. At least he’ll be heading to Hershey to continue his development as the team makes a push for a Calder Cup.
