Washington Capitals: Saying Goodbye To Alex Prewitt

The Washington Capitals and their fans bid farewell to Washington Post writer Alex Prewitt as he moves on to Sports Illustrated.

The Washington Capitals have been blessed with some excellent writers and reporters over the years. Mike Vogel is the gold standard. His way of writing is unique and he expresses himself in such a positive manner. Vogel is very interactive with Caps fans. Adam Vingan was beloved for his glorious puns and in-depth stories. Alex Prewitt, though his time covering the Washington Capitals was close, was sort of a mixture of those two.

Here at Stars and Sticks, we don’t get the luxury of getting quotes from the locker room or interviews. As an editor, the first place I’d go to for quotes was Prewitt. His twitter feed and articles were full of amazing quotes. Prewitt has a unique writing style. Before reading Prewitt’s articles, I used to think that I had heard about every way possible of saying “Braden Holtby saved the Caps“. Prewitt consistently proved me wrong. At times, I wasn’t sure if I was reading an epic ballad or a recap of a hockey game.

Like Vogel, Prewitt was interactive with Washington Capitals fans. He was especially interactive with the blogs. Back when I used to write for Talk The Red, I remember the first time I actually covered a Washington Capitals game. It was a Caps-Devils game. I got into the media room and grabbed the first seat available. It was the one next to Prewitt. Alex noticed me and introduced himself. It was a small gesture that was greatly appreciated. Prewitt is a kind soul who I wish nothing but the best for as he moves on to cover the NHL for Sports Illustrated. Sports Illustrated is getting a one-of-a-kind writer.

Prewitt touched other Washington Capitals bloggers during his tenure with the Washington Post. Here’s what Ian Oland from Russian Machine Never Breaks had to say about Prewitt.

After giving us several Caps beat writers who were more traditional, the Washington Post trotted out Alex Prewitt last year. They hit a home run. From vining Mitch Korn’s weird (and brilliant) drills to asking Caps players questions we all cared about, Prewitt constantly churned out fantastic content on literally every platform and really tried to make all of us feel like we were there in the locker room with him (sometimes I was even there too!).His content was different and vibrant. It had personality (please see this important butt story that appeared in print) and nuance. Prewitt, always cheerful, was always kind to me and other Caps bloggers. It was not an act.I, and everyone else at RMNB, wish him the best at SI.

Japers Rink declined to give a statement but did offer a fantastic post that they did about Prewitt and his writing style. It’s a must read and will definitely bring a smile to your face.

Thanks for everything Alex Prewitt. You’re going to be awesome at Sports Illustrated. We will now leave you with some of our favorite memories of Prewitt. Time for some appropriate music.
