The Washington Capitals faceoff with the Vancouver Canucks for a Saturday Matinee to wrap up the season series.

After the Washington Capitals ripped off a streak of 13 games producing standings points, they have hit a slight down turn with three regulation losses in the last four games.

This coincides with injuries to Carl Hagelin and Nic Dowd, causing their penalty kill and overall team defense to be affected by their absence.

To add to their struggles Nicklas Backstrom is day to day with an upper body injury, and Garnet Hathaway was handed down a 3 game suspension for spitting at a player during the scrum against the Anaheim Ducks. This game will mark the second game of Hathaway’s suspension further hindering their PK.

More from Capitals News

The team had to offset all the roster voids prior to their last matchup against the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, where they lost 4-1, they recalled four from Hershey.

For the Capitals to get back to their winning ways, they will need more production from the next men up in Mike Sgarbossa, Beck Malenstyn and the newly recalled Christian Djoos.

The Capitals will need to practice restraint to stay out of the penalty box as much as possible.  This can only help the ailing penalty kill which had four forwards putting in at least 1:51 of shorthanded time against the New York Rangers.

In the contest, the team was only able to stop one out of three penalties.  They will also look to improve their own power play output where they only connected on one out of three power plays. With the swap of Tyler Lewington in favor of Christian Djoos, look for the Capitals to press the action from the blue line with aggressive puck movement.

Hopefully the team can bounce back after taking Vancouver to a shootout on Oct 26th and coming out on top.
