The Washington Capitals will see the Boston Bruins for their last meeting of the regular season. Will this be the series everyone looks forward to come the playoffs? Here is how to see the fireworks and what to expect.

The Washington Capitals continued their winning ways, with any team not from Columbus, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in a close contest 3-1 Saturday evening.

From the get go it was a seesaw affair with both teams getting opportunities and applying heavy pressure on the other.

After the first period barrage which ended in a 0-0 tie, it appeared we were in for a goalie driven result.

It took a high point shot from Radko Gudas for his first of the season and as a Washington Capital, to break through in the second period. That would be the only score for either team until the third period when it would break open.

Although it took until halfway into the period for the next score to happen, it was the Lightning who delivered. Kucherov scored as a trailer who wasn’t picked up by the Capitals defense as they were caught watching the puck.

But less than four minutes later the tie would be broken up by Dmitry Orlov, who released a slapshot from high above the left circle using a screen from a few of the Lightning players and beat McElhinney glove side. This coming after overcoming a 2-man advantage the Lightning held against the Capitals.

The final nail in the win for the Capitals came as they were shorthanded again on the empty net by the Lightning, and Tom Wilson would find Nic Dowd running up the side board for the score.

This had all the action and drama you would expect out of these two powerhouse teams, last years President Trophy winner and this years most likely potential winner. But this will pale in comparison to the matchup next for the Washington Capitals, as they take on the gritty and pesky Bruins.

Since their last encounter, the Capitals and Bruins paths have been different. The Capitals are 3-1 since they last saw the Bruins, while the Bruins 1-4 and currently on a three game losing streak.

The Capitals shouldn’t overlook the fact that in those three games the Bruins have only lost by a goal in each. The Bruins also still sit atop the Atlantic Division with as the only other team in the Eastern Conference besides the Washington Capitals who has 50 standings points, with 51.  One advantage the Capitals will have is the absence of Zdeno Chara. So those of you looking forward to a rematch of Chara and Wilson will have to wait.

While the Capitals have owned the Atlantic Division this year, to the tune of an 11-1 record. They should consider this a playoff game as that’s exactly how it has seemed the last two meetings with these teams.

After having such a good game against the Lightning and his track record, look for the Capitals to look toward Holtby to seal off the goal against the Bruins. While the Capitals managed to come out the winners against the Lightning despite being outhit 35-23, they can’t expect the same outcome against the Bruins as this just plays into their game. The Capitals will need to bring their heavy game to survive and make an impact that lasts until the playoffs where these two might very well meet.
