The Washington Capitals look to get back in the win column after a loss to the Predators, can they repeat their previous matchup against the Senators.
The Washington Capitals were defeated to bring their winning streak to a screeching halt when the Nashville Predators came to town and handed the Capitals a 5-4 not so close game.
The Capitals came ready to play and were putting their foot on the throttle early, in response Richard Panik scored with no screen or obstruction just flat out beat Saros.

The lead wouldn’t last though as the Predators would respond quickly by scoring less than a minute later on Holtby. This appeared to wake up the Predators as a whole as they would tack on two more scores, making it a possibility of the Washington Capitals actually pulling Holtby again. But Ovechkin would bring it back to a one score game capitalizing on a mistake by Saros who misplayed the puck, giving Ovechkin the goal mouth with no defense.
The Washington Capitals then owned the second period by gaining the lead on another luck of the bounce for Panik by Bonino scoring a own goal. The Capitals would then take the lead on a power play goal from Tom Wilson after he drew the penalty from a high stick to the mouth.
Their third period started promising until the Capitals allowed a shorthanded goal to Johansen. This basically made up for all the miscues from earlier on by the Predators.
The Predators would finally take back the lead they held in the first period, on a well screened Braden Holtby. While the Capitals made a hard effort they couldn’t get a good scoring chance with the extra skater and would finish with the puck and the loss.
Next they will be facing the Ottawa Senators, who while are coming in on a win have only won two in the last five contests. They are still out of the basement in the Atlantic division, thanks only to the Detroit Red Wings still running away with the lottery for the top pick.
Otherwise the Senators would be near or in the basement in any other division. The last time they met the Washington Capitals they couldn’t keep up and would go down by way of a 6-1 final score. With scoring coming from up and down the lineup and a stellar performance by Ilya Samsonov. How may the next game unfold?
The Washington Capitals will need to bring the effort they finished with against the Predators. With this marking the two week point since Ilya Samsonov last started, it would be an perfect time to get him another start and allow Braden Holtby to get a breather from the messing game he just had. Will Alex Ovechkin have another multi goal game as he did earlier this month against the Senators?
