Capitals: Braden Holtby donates 25,000 meals to food charity
Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby and his wife Brandi have donated 25,000 meals to the Capital Area Food Bank and they need your help to reach their goal.
Braden Holtby isn’t just known among Washington Capitals fans for making saves. He’s also left an impact in the D.C. community off the ice. With no hockey due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, many athletes and owners in the sports community are looking for ways to give back to the community.
Braden and his wife Brandi have committed to donating 25,000 meals and have the goal of getting to 50,000. Brandi tweeted out a link saying “Inspired by our fellow DC Sports family, Braden and I have committed to donating 25k meals through @foodbankmetrodc. As the regions largest hunger relief organization, their services are needed now more than ever. Please help us get to 50k meals!”
Brandi set up a page on mighty cause to raise $10,000 for the Capital Area Food Bank. The webpage says:

We are proud to support the region’s largest hunger relief organization, the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB). They provide food to nearly 400,000 children and families who face hunger in our region. As school and workplace closures make access to enough nutritious food even more challenging, these children and working families need our help now, more than ever. Please join us in donating to the CAFB! Your donations will support the purchase, packaging, and distribution of food boxes for children and families in the DC-Metro Area. Check out https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/covid19response/ to see more about how they are responding to COVID-19.If you know of someone who needs food assistance, please have them contact the Capital Area Food Bank Hunger Life Line at 202-644-9807 or https://www.capitalareafoodbank.org/find-food-assistance/.Thank you!Brandi and Braden
As of Friday March 20, they’ve raised $5,651, more than halfway toward their $10,000 goal. You can donate by clicking the link here. This project was inspired by Washington Nationals pitcher Sean Doolittle and his wife Eireann.
Causes such as these are just another example of how some hockey players are even better people. The Holtby family needs your help to reach their goal of 10k and Caps fans everywhere are already pitching in to help out the community. Even one dollar goes a long way.
It also shows how much the Holtby’s care about the D.C. community and no matter what happens in the future, they’ll always be a part of it.
