Washington Capitals sign Paul LaDue

Another defenseman for the Washington Capitals.

After acquiring Trevor van Riemsdyk the Washington Capitals made another move by signing defenseman Paul LaDue to a one year contract worth $700,000. LaDue recorded an assist in two games with the Los Angeles Kings last season.

The 28 year old is listed at six foot two and 200 pounds. Additionally, he registered 27 points with nine goals and 18 assists in 48 games with the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Grand Forks, N.D., native recorded five points with two goals and three assists in 33 games with the Kings in the 2018-19 season.

LaDue led all team defenseman with at least 15 games played in shot attempt percentage at five on five with 402 shot attempts for and 393 against and ranked second in hits per 60 minutes of play.

LaDue attended college at the University of North Dakota and won an NCAA Championship in the 2015-16 season. He was originally selected by the Los Angles Kings in the sixth round at 181st overall in the 2012 NHL Draft. LaDue as 18 points with five goals and 13 assists in 69 career NHL games.

LaDue will probably spend the start of next season with the Hershey Bears. The Bears defense has the following players: LaDue, Alex Alexeyev, Martin Fehervary, Tobias Geisser, Lucas Johansen, and Cameron Schilling.

LaDue will reunite with Shane Gersich where the two won a national championship at the Unversity of North Dakota. It appears this signing means the Caps will not bring back Tyler Lewington. LaDue will probably take on a similar role this season.

LaDue is the fourth newest defenseman to join the Capitals organization. It all began with Justin Schultz when he was signed to a two year deal worth eight million dollars. Earlier Saturday the Caps announced they signed Cameron Schilling and then Saturday night the Caps signed Trevor van Riemsdyk.
