A new Washington Capitals jersey is on the way with a retro feel.
Earlier this week, the NHL and Adidas posted a video on social media showing all 31 NHL teams in their Reverse Retro jerseys. The video didn’t show the full design for every team but rather did a teaser. When it came to the Washington Capitals colors, to no surprise, it was all red white and blue with the number 97 on it.
Low and behold, the 97 represents the logo the Caps used from 1997. On Friday morning the Caps also tweeted out three images of what the reverse retro jersey would look like. The full design is expected to be released in the coming days or weeks.
A first look at this new retro jersey showcases the old Capitol Dome but remixed with red highlights. The back collar will feature the Reverse Retro logo in between the Caps abbreviation “WSH” and the year the jersey was inspired by.

While we didn’t see the front of the jersey, there are rumors all over social media that the Caps are brining back the screaming eagle logo. Caps fan Lucas Daitchman revealed what he thinks the jersey could look like last month in a tweet. His design looks like it might be what Adidas would go with. After all, he had a source describe to him what the jersey would look like.
Icethetics reported back in March about the Reverse Retro jersey series that each team is taking part in. Each jersey is unique to the team and city and pays homage to their history. According to Russian Machine Never Breaks, a source close to the Caps told them that the team plans on bringing back the screaming eagle jersey.
Additionally, Adidas has a goal of having alternate jerseys that would change every year beginning in the 2021 season. There were rumors that the Caps would wear an updated version of their 2015 Winter Classic jersey but those plans look like they’re scrapped unless there’s a possibility there’s another jersey on the way.
We can’t wait until we see the full design once and for all. One thing is for sure, these jerseys are straight fire already and they’ll fly off the shelves once they’re available for sale.
