The Washington Capitals reverse retros are straight fire.

On Monday, the Washington Capitals and the rest of the NHL revealed the new adidas Reverse Retro collection. The Caps got it right with their jersey which is a Rock the Red version of the photo shown above. The team will wear them for select games during the 2021 season.

It is a jersey from the 1997-98 season reimagined with the red, white and blue colors of the flag. That 1997-98 team was a special one featuring Peter Bondra, Olie Kolzig, Calle Johansson, and much more. It was originally a part of a team re-brand that included switching to a lighter shade of blue.

The Caps originally introduced these logos with a blue, black, and bronze color scheme in 1995 before retiring the look in 2007. It was then when they came out with the current jerseys the Caps wear home and away today.

Adidas worked closely with each NHL team to design a Reverse Retro jersey that represents unique and historical moments in each club’s history, while refreshing the color and design with a modern twist. The process took two years and required them to mine each team’s jersey archive and team colors to remix them into something new and never seen before. It is a hot market item that is sure to be a popular holiday gift.

Hunter Lochmann, Monumental Sports and Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer, said in a press release:

"“We are excited to unveil the Capitals Reverse Retro jersey that showcases a significant era of our team history. Working closely with adidas and the NHL, our goal was to pay tribute to our 97-98 team, refreshing the jersey design and, most importantly, following through on the feedback from our fanbase by reinstating the iconic Screaming Eagle. We are extremely proud of the Capitals Reverse Retro jersey and look forward to seeing its debut on-ice during the 2020-21 season.”"

So when can Caps fans purchase these bad boys? They’ll be available on Dec. 1 and it’ll be sure to fly off the shelves of the team stores at Capital One Arena and MedStar Capitals Iceplex. It is unknown which games the Caps will be wearing them but with the Pittsburgh Penguins reverse retros being white, one can imagine the team will wear them when the rivals clash once again.
