The Washington Capitals reverse retro jersey was the top selling jersey in the NHL. Now Caps fans will have to fork over some more money as the team just unveiled new third jerseys that they will wear seven times.

These beauties are navy blue with a W on the front. It is a nod to the history of the Caps playing in outdoor games including as recently as the 2018 Stadium Series and the 2015 Winter Classic.

You may recall the Caps wore navy blue during the Stadium Series in Annapolis. You may also recall the Winter Classic jerseys from that historic game at Nationals Park. Those ones were maroon with a W right on the chest.

They’ll be wearing these jerseys for the next three seasons beginning tomorrow night against the New York Islanders. The blue jerseys will be worn once against each team in the East division, per the team.

The W on the front of the jersey is a tribute to Washington, D.C. If you look closely you’ll notice the Washington Monument in the middle of the W. The W stands alone as a Capital letter to symbolize the strength of our Nation’s Capital. The color scheme is also aligned with the USA flag with each color representing a nod to Caps fans.

Red stands for dedication, white stands for loyalty while blue is for community. The three stars on top of the W represent the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia).

The Caps will also honor a frontline worker in each game the jersey is worn as the team’s Blue Star of the Game. Those lucky few will be spotlighted, receive a complimentary jersey and be honored during the game’s starting lineup in honor of their efforts during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The jerseys are on sale now at shop.nhl.com, shop.monumentalsportsnetwork.com or at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store as well as the Capital One Arena store starting tomorrow at 10 a.m. For a buying guide you can click here.
