The Washington Capitals close out the month of February with their second of two games of the weekend against the New Jersey Devils. The Caps are coming off of two straight 5-2 wins and will be looking to end this roller coaster of a month on a high note.

Peter Laviolette just talked to the media after the Caps made the following roster moves: calling up Ilya Samsonov from the taxi squad while sending Craig Anderson to the taxi squad. Laviolette said that Samsonov will be making the start this afternoon.

More from Capitals News

Samsonov has played in just two NHL games this season with a record of 1-0-1 with a 3.36 goals against average and .868 save percentage. In his absence, rookie Vitek Vanecek had to carry the load. He did well enough for a rookie netminder and even took home Rookie of the Month honors in January.

Samsonov had a long road to recovery as he tested positive for COVID-19 and was out of the lineup for the longest time. He did get some looks with the Hershey Bears before getting brought back up this weekend. The Caps took their time and were extra cautious with him.

Other pregame news: Evgeny Kuznetsov will be out of the lineup for the second game in a row as he continues to deal with an upper body injury. He is day to day.

Here is what the lines looked like in yesterday’s contest. With Kuznetsov out, it is likely they’ll go with the same lineup today.
