Peter Laviolette announced in his media availability that Ilya Samsonov will get the start in net. He also said he isn’t sure if Wilson is going to appeal his suspension. He has 48 hours to do so with the NHL unless he wants to do it to a neutral arbitrator. Laviolette called Wilson’s hit a “hockey hit” after practice on Saturday.
Alex Ovechkin also spoke before the game. When asked about his contract update he said there’s no update. “Same. Nothing,” Ovechkin said. Ovechkin also talked about the Tom Wilson hit and agreed there shouldn’t have been a penalty on the play. He called Wilson’s seven game suspension “kind of a joke”.
Can the Caps survive a tough road environment without Tom Wilson? Here is how to find out.
