The Washington Capitals will be going green this Friday against the New York Rangers, in an annual tradition. They’ll be taking the ice for warmups in special green jerseys to commemorate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day. Yesterday was officially St. Patrick’s Day and the team released the look of the warmup jersey. It is straight fire.

It is so fire in fact I might have to empty my bank account and bid on one. Just kidding. But if you do have the money you are encouraged to bid on one of these beauties which will be signed by the respective player after the game. There will be other auction items available including player used, green taped sticks and signed individual and team St. Patrick’s Day themed pucks.

The jerseys will be available for auction on Handbid and the auction will benefit Leveling the Playing Field. Start bidding now! The auction will end at 9 p.m. on Thursday March 25 during the Caps vs. New Jersey Devils game.

"LPF is focused on delivering the opportunity to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports to underserved children. Through active solicitation of used and excess sporting equipment, it warehouses and sorts donations throughout the greater Washington region. The delivery of equipment to municipal and school programs serving low-income communities saves landfill space as well as program-funds, ensuring lower registration fees, expanded scholarship programs, and enhanced athletic program offerings for more children. Since 2013, LPF has distributed more than $7 million worth of equipment to more than 1,000 schools and youth programs in the Washington, D.C, and Baltimore, Md., regions. The Caps have been known for releasing special jerseys throughout the season. The reverse retro and third jerseys are the number one sellers online. In addition, the team also wore special jerseys for warmups during Black History Month that were also auctioned off.

It is great seeing the Caps continue to give back to the community in this ongoing pandemic even though things are done differently now. Instead of regular meetups in the community, everything is virtual but Caps fans have been known to donate and pitch money and the team has raised lots of money over the years for various charities.
