The Washington Capitals will begin a two game home series against the New York Rangers tonight at 7 p.m. at Capital One Arena. They’ll be looking for their sixth straight win and the Caps come into this contest winners of 10 of their last 11 games.

Tonight will be the third time this season the Caps will take on the Rangers. They haven’t won a game yet as they enter this contest 0-2-0. Alex Ovechkin, Carl Hagelin, and Dmitry Orlov all recorded goals against the Rangers this season. The Caps enter tonight’s game with a 19-6-4 record in first place in the MassMutual East Division.

More from Capitals News

The Rangers are the lone team the Caps have yet to defeat this season. No better time than tonight so the team can win their sixth in a row. There are only six games remaining in the month of March and four of those six are against the Rangers. The last time these two teams met was the definition of a trap game for the Caps but since then they have been playing their best hockey.

The Caps are coming off a win over the New York Islanders. The Rangers on the other hand had some adversity but overcame it in a big way. On Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden, head coach David Quinn and his assistance were absent due to COVID-19 protocols.

As a result, the Hartford Wolf Pack coaching staff would fill in. The Rangers would go on to rout the Flyers 9-0 in a game that included seven goals in the second period. Mika Zibanejad, who is a Caps villain who scored five goals against them last season, scored a natural hat trick in the win.

The Caps will go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen. Despite Lars Eller skating on the ice at practices and morning skates, he remains out with a lower body injury.
