The Washington Capitals are back in action tonight in a rematch with the New York Rangers. Tom Wilson will return to the lineup after serving a seven game suspension. The Caps won all seven of their games without him.

Wilson was suspended after boarding Boston Bruins defensemen Brandon Carlo on March 5. It was the last game the Caps had lost in a while, just over two weeks ago in a 5-1 defeat. They have since played their best hockey.

The Caps are coming off a thrilling 2-1 win over the Rangers in a game that saw Alex Ovechkin take over late in the third period with two clutch goals. Now the Caps look for their eighth win in a row with one of their most physical players back in the lineup.

The Caps were frustrated that the league punished him for that length of a time. For Wilson, it serves a wake up call. He will still be physical, no doubt about that, but now he knows he has to fix his game and make sure his future hits are legal.

Wilson spoke to the media after Friday’s optional morning skate. The team didn’t have a skate today with this being the second of a back to back. Via Samantha Pell of The Washington Post (subscription required):

"“I can’t be missing seven games. I can’t be missing one game. I’ve got to be in the lineup. As you look around the league, there’s a lot of different stuff going on. There’s some confusion. … I’ve been physical my whole life. That’s in me. That’s bred in me. I’m always going to try to be a physical player, but for now I just have to continue to develop my offense and chip in offensively and help the team win and obviously be more careful to make sure I’m not putting myself in those spots.”"
