After four days of recovery, Washington Capitals hockey is back. The Caps are back in action for the first time since Saturday when their seven game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the New York Rangers. The Caps now turn their attention to the New Jersey Devils and look to build a whole new winning streak.
The Caps are undefeated against the Devils this season with a 4-0-0 record. Jakub Vrana leads the team with four goals and six points (four goals, two assists) in four games against New Jersey this season. Nicklas Backstrom and John Carlson have five points with a goal and four assists each.

The Caps enter this game with a 20-7-4 record, good for second place in the MassMutual East Division with two games in hand on the division leading New York Islanders.
The Caps held an optional morning skate ahead of their game against the Devils on Thursday morning at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Lars Eller was not on the ice as he’s still dealing with a lower body injury. Alex Ovechkin was on the ice after missing Tuesday’s practice (maintenance day) but being on hand for Wednesdays. Ovechkin is expected to play tonight.
Caps head coach Peter Laviolette announced to the media that Vitek Vanecek will get the start tonight against the Devils. Vanecek carries a 13-5-3 record with a 2.66 goals against average and a .911 save percentage.
