The Washington Capitals conclude their homestand with a Sunday afternoon game against the New York Rangers that gets underway in less than an hour!
It is the fifth time the Caps will play the Rangers this season. The Caps are 1-3-0. Alex Ovechkin leads the Caps with three goals and three points in four games against the Rangers this season. Ovechkin scored twice in Washington’s win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night and has scored 10 goals in the last 12 games.

The Caps enter the game with a 22-7-4 record good for first place in the MassMutual East Division. They are tied with the New York Islanders for 48 points. Right behind them is the Pittsburgh Penguins with 46 points.
Peter Laviolette met with the media prior to the game. He said that Lars Eller remains out with a lower body injury. In goal will be Ilya Samsonov who is coming off a shutout, stopping all 24 shots he faced on Friday night. Samsonov is 7-1-1 this season with a 2.22 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
Ovechkin isn’t the only player on a hot streak as fellow Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov has recorded 11 points in his last nine games. We haven’t seen this production from Kuzy since the 2018 playoffs which is a good sign if he keeps this going.
