The Washington Capitals got their four game road trip off to a good start with a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. It was the fourth and final game in Philly and the Caps made themselves at home winning all four games. Alex Ovechkin scored twice and is getting closer to Marcel Dionne.

Ovechkin first struck when the Caps were on the power play from his office early in the game at 3:38. John Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov had the assists. It took 55 seconds on the man advantage for the Caps to strike first.

The Flyers would tie it with a buzzer beating goal from Ivan Provorov. 1-1 was the score after one with the Caps leading in shots 11-6.

The Caps took the lead 33 seconds into the second period on a rocket blast from Dmitry Orlov for his seventh goal of the season. Carlson and Ovechkin had the helpers. Orlov and Ovechkin would each get the Cobra Kai headbands after the game.

The Flyers tied it at 5:28 on a goal from James van Riemsdyk. The Caps would answer when they got a power play chance and who else but Ovechkin? Ovechkin ripped a one time blast from outside his office at 6:15. Like his last goal, Carlson and Kuznetsov had the assists.

For Ovechkin, it was his 24th goal of the season. It was also the 730th of his career. He’s one away from tying Dionne for fifth place in the NHL’s all time scoring list. Simply remarkable.

The Caps made it 4-2 at 15:02. Carlson set up Tom Wilson who backhanded the puck along the boards to an open Kuznetsov, who finished it for his eighth goal of the season.

4-2 was the score after two. The Caps outshot the Flyers 19-10 in the second.

The Flyers got one back at 7:02 in the third with a power play goal from Wade Allison. The Caps would answer to give us half off pizza today. Lars Eller set up Justin Schultz. Schultz fired it and Conor Sheary was there to tip it in for his 12th goal of the season at 9:15.

The Caps would put the game away with Anthony Mantha‘s empty net goal. It was the third straight game Mantha scored. I now think they won that trade. He’s got a hard shot and looks like he’s adapting well to the team.
