We have finally reached the day the Washington Capitals will let fans back into Capital One Arena. To celebrate we came up detailing the perfect guide giving you everything you need to know for attending the game. If it’s your first time going, reading this guide will make you feel like an expert. If you’ve been here many times before, this guide will serve as a good refresher course. We also packed it with new stuff about the policies for COVID-19 since we’re unfortunately still in a pandemic.
The first Caps game against the New York Islanders will mark Fans Opening Night. Ticket priority was given to Season Ticket Holders and any additional inventory, you can buy on Ticketmaster. Keep in mind, at least for right now, you cannot resell tickets. That’s why going to a Caps game in the regular season will be tough.

The Caps will recognize hundreds of frontline workers who have been outstanding during the pandemic with tributes before and during the game to spotlight the individuals. All fans in attendance will get a mask, presented by MedStar that says “ALL FANS, ALL CAPS”.
Here are highlights of the new protocols that are in place. Fans are required to wear a face covering or mask at all times except when eating and drinking. Doors open one hour prior to game time. Your ticket will tell you details on which gate to enter. Fans are asked to maintain social distancing of at least six feet or more.
Seating will be in pods and spaced out. When entering the arena you’ll be required to answer a couple questions like whether you had a fever or COVID-19 symptoms. If you’re driving to the game the garages at Capital One Arena are closed but other parking is available via Spot Hero.
Fans are encouraged to take the Metro to the game. You can take the orange or silver line to Metro Center and transfer trains to the red line to Gallery Place/Chinatown. Or if you walk from Metro Center, it is about a block and a half to the arena.
If you’re looking for places to go to before the game I highly recommend the following places: Penn Quarter Sports Tavern, Rocket Bar, Bar Louie, and Clydes. My personal favorite out of all of them is Rocket Bar, which survived the pandemic and has since reopened.
As far as food goes at the game. make sure you bring a credit card as cash less transactions are encouraged to slow the spread of COVID. Food and beverages will be covered when served and must be consumed in your seats. There’s also mobile ordering in addition to concessions. Alcohol sales will stop at concessions at Caps games midway through the second period and the start of the third period for in seat ordering.
Are you one of the lucky 2,100 fans that are going to the game tonight? Are you going to a game soon? Do you want to rant about how there are no resells? No matter what let us know in the comments!
