After a heated and emotional two game series with the New York Rangers, the Washington Capitals return to the comforts of home for three games to close out the regular season. First up is a back to back affair with the Philadelphia Flyers, who they’ll see tonight and tomorrow night.

The Caps are coming off an emotional win over the Rangers that featured a ton of fights and a T.J. Oshie hat trick to honor his late dad. It was one of those games that will gear you up for the playoffs.

The Rangers threw everything they had at the Caps and Washington handled them with poise. There was a forward brawl to start the game. In fact, there were six fights in the first five minutes. Yes, Tom Wilson did get involved in one and he won the fight but left the game late in the first period and didn’t return.

The Caps struck first in the second 12 seconds in with a snipe from T.J. Oshie in front of the net on the power play. Oshie would score again rebounding in a shot form Dmitry Orlov. Nic Dowd would make it 3-0 deflecting in a shot from John Carlson. Oshie would complete the hat trick in the third period with the empty net goal.

Tonight is the seventh meeting between the Caps and Flyers this season with Washington carrying a 6-1-0 including a six game winning streak. Alex Ovechkin leads the Caps with eight goals and 12 points in six games against the Flyers. He wasn’t available Wednesday night and we don’t know yet as of this writing if he’ll be in the lineup tonight.

John Carlson (one goal, six assists) leads the Caps in assists and Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson (two goals and five assists each) have seven points against Philadelphia. The Caps have also scored well against the Flyers, averaging 4.63 goals per game, the highest against any opponent this season.
