On Friday the Washington Capitals announced a limited number of individual playoff tickets became available for all four possible home games in the First Round at Capital One Arena.

The announcement comes days after Muriel Bowser, the Mayor of Washington, D.C., announced that sporting events in the D.C. area will be allowed increased capacity in the coming weeks. The increase of fans in attendance will continue to rise until it reaches 100% capacity on June 11.

Mayor Bowser also announced that a waiver has been approved to increase Capital One Arena’s current capacity. The capacity at Capital One will be increased from 10% (2,100) to 25% (5,250). The increase takes effect on May 15, the day the Capitals host the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the First Round.

Fans in attendance during the playoffs will be a huge advantage for Washington. Capitals fans are passionate for their hockey team. They will let the opposing team know early they have arrived, even if 75% capacity is still missing.

The Capitals open up Game 1 of the First Round against Boston on Saturday. The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was in 2012.

Washington finished the regular-season vs. Bruins on Tuesday. The Capitals defeated Boston on a dramatic buzzer beater goal by Michael RaffI with three seconds left in regulation by a score of 2-1.

Both the Capitals and Boston didn’t fare well in the playoffs last season. Washington was eliminated in an upset in the opening round against the New York Islanders. The Bruins succumbed in Round 2 to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions, Tampa Bay Lightning.

It’s important to note that all previous safety and health protocols announced by Monumental Sports & Entertainment remain in effect. Fans who want to attend the games are encouraged to purchase tickets directly through the Washington Capitals, Ticketmaster or the NHL Ticket Exchange.
