Capitals: Breaking down the NHL Player Gaming Challenge

Evgeny Kuznetsov will take part in the NHL Player Gaming Challenging this weekend, representing the Washington Capitals.

We can’t wait to see Evgeny Kuznetsov represent the Washington Capitals but what exactly is the NHL Player Gaming Challenge? Well glad you asked because you came to the right place.

The NHL Player Gaming Challenge is a tournament featuring each NHL club represented by one or two current players.

They take on another team in a best of three format on EA Sports’ NHL 20 video game. Matches are available on all NHL platforms including their Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Kuznetsov is part of the second half of the week two schedule and he will take on Jonathan Huberdeau of the Florida Panthers.

There were three matches in week one. Brady Takachuk of the Ottawa Senators took down Matthew Tkachuk and Noah Hanifin of the Calgary Flames. The second match saw Jamie Oleksiak and Stephen Jones of the Dallas Stars defeat Bryan Rust and Zach Aston-Reese of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The third match featured Filip Forsberg of the Nashville Predators taking down J.T. Compher of the Colorado Avalanche. 

Per the NHL’s press release: The NHL Player Gaming Challenge presented by Honda is a #HockeyAtHome initiative that reminds fans to stay safe, stay home and play together. As the NHL community continues to practice social distancing and take all necessary precautions during this time, the League will continue to help fans stay connected to players and the game by providing access to unique content and archived games. NHL Pause Binge aggregates NHL video, editorials and digital content available on NHL.com, the NHL app and across the NHL’s social channels. Fans can follow along using the hashtag #HockeyAtHome.

The first matchup took place on Thursday between Clayton Keller and Conor Garland of the Arizona Coyotes and Jake DeBrusk and Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins. The game we’ve all been waiting for will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m.
